Planterra started in 1973 as a private greenhouse in Bloomfield Hills. The greenhouse was located at the estate previously owned by the Sanders family, famously known for Sander’s Chocolates. As the operation outgrew its original greenhouse, it provided tropical foliage for many of Detroit’s developments, including the Detroit Renaissance Center and the Shinola Hotel.
