Services

Let’s start with the services included when you book your wedding at the War Memorial because when you choose a wedding venue, you need to know exactly what you are paying for. First, you need to know this wedding venue is reserved to honor members and veterans of the Armed Forces, and this means you must have a family member living or deceased who has served or is serving in the United States military.

Your venue rental includes an event coordinator to assist you with your planning needs. Standard tables and chairs are included, and you can choose from round and rectangular tables for six to eleven guests. White floor-length linens, dinner napkins, and a place setting including china, silverware, salt and pepper, bread and butter plate with knife, water, and wine glasses are included.

The War Memorial wedding venue offers an incredible menu for you and your guests to enjoy; it is an extraordinary service paired with personalized bar packages to fulfill your needs. You can tailor your food and beverage experience; the venue coordinators will help you choose every detail. Their team proudly serves responsibly grown and fresh ingredients with every meal, so you can rest knowing your guests will receive only the top quality.

Their menu options are endless, with plenty of hors D’oeuvres, sides, entrees, salads, and main dishes to choose from. If you want to upgrade their wedding package, you can do it at an extra charge. Keep in mind there is a minimum for food and beverages, and it is not allowed to hire external catering services. The minimum for food and beverages depends on the space you wish to rent and the day of the week.

The Historic Alger House

Originally built in 1910 as the mansion for the Alger family, it is the main house; you and your guests will arrive and be welcomed by two brass lions who guard the entrance, then you will see the stone-paved front circle with a large working fountain, all of it surrounded by carefully manicured gardens. This magnificent entrance can be part of your wedding video as you arrive or even shoot your first look.

Inside the Alger house, you can find four separate but adjoining rooms, the library, the reception room, the dining room, and the palm room. Original glass French doors separate each room; they all feature shiny hardwood floors and fit perfectly up to 125 seated guests. If you are hosting a larger wedding, you can add this space for a spectacular cocktail hour. The unbeatable views of the back lawn and Lake St. Clair will win your heart, and you can make incredible memories along one of the three working gas fireplaces.

The Crystal Ballroom

The largest space available at the War Memorial Detroit wedding venue, you can accommodate over 300 guests and enjoy panoramic views from the surrounding glass doors. This space was added to the original building in the early 1960s, and it is being remodeled to offer a timeless and versatile style for any celebration. Plenty of natural light will fill the space through the floor-to-ceiling windows. You can enjoy a cocktail hour outdoors on the newly added veranda.

Ceremony

If you are planning on hosting your ceremony in the same location as your wedding reception, then the War Memorial is ideal for you. Wedding ceremonies can be held on the back lawn, with enough space for up to 300 seated guests. Their ceremony fee includes ceremony coordination, one scheduled 30 minutes rehearsal, use and set up of ceremony chairs, two changing rooms for the couple, and exclusive use of the terrace, back lawn, and trial gardens for two hours and thirty minutes. Indoor ceremonies might be held in the library, accommodating up to 80 seated guests.
